Wife cake

My mum been to Yuen Long for a day trip last Sat ,
of course she bought some " wife cake " for our tea time .
i ate half of one cake ...

Wife cake ( OR , sweetheart cake ) , Cantonese would be " Loupo ben "
is a traditional pastry made with water melond and almond paste ,
a popular sweety snack in Hong Kong and mainland China .


Wife cake has a long history in Guangdong district , some said that
there're 2 legends to explain the origins of the Sweetheart cake.

Share with you one of the legend -----
A loving couple lived a very poor life in a small village in China.
One day, a mysterious disease spread. The husband's father
became very sick.
The couple spent all of their money for the medicine on the man's father,
however the man's father is still suffering in that mysterious illness.
Eventaully, the wife sold herself as a slave in exchange for money
, buying medicine for her father-in-law.
Once the husband learned about what his wife did, he made a cake
filled with winter melon and with a crispy crust.
His cake became so popular that he was able to earn enough
money to buy his wife back.



"Hang Heung " ia a famous bakery shop in Yuen Long ,
selling this very traditional and tasty " Wife cake ",
they're the expert in this business !! ( LIKE Pasteis de belem in Portugal )
Besides " wife cake " they also sell other traditional Chinese
confectionaries ,eg mooncake / pastry for chinese wedding etc
Flagship store is in Yuen Long but they also have other franchises
all over Hong Kong ...

A bit late to show you here the X'mas party we have in office
on 24 DEC ...
all foods / desserts are made by my lovely colleagues ..
2 salades / 2 pasta / 2 pizzas / 4 kinda snacks / 3-5 desserts , cakes etc
They're brilliant and fantastic !
and YES ... i made nothing on that day , my duty is preparing the gifts .
** AND that's the most important part of the party on that day !!!

2.) My poor eyes looks very small under the glasses ,
suffering infection on that day ~

3.) The red-pot in the middle is the chocolate Fondue ...

This was the breakfast of my brother and me. I don't usually have this kind of sweets for breakfast but as we all know, it's ok to eat it just as long as we don't do it on a regular basis.











This was my dinner of yesterday, Arroz Chau-Chau ( Chau Chau rice ) with two spring rolls. Arroz Chau Chau is a dish you can find at any chinese restaurant and i think it came from Macau. And it's basically fried rice with peas, egg, carrots and ham.







As usually i haven't included my lunch here because i wasn't so hungry. So i just had some cereals for lunch.

Dog Life is hard!!
