Last year it was the New York Times that named Lisbon one of the top destinations for 2008, gaining the 2nd spot ( http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/09/travel/09where.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin ). This year it was Lonely Planet to select Lisbon as one of the top 10 destinations for 2009 on its “Best in Travel” list ( http://triphow.com/?p=613 ).
It was announced yesterday that Lisbon, the “seductive” Iberian city, was selected for having “scored points” in the last few years, turning itself into a sophisticated destination, a gourmet paradise, where antiquity and charm meet a young population always willing to party.
The ”Santos Populares” ( Popular saints ) feast every June is highlighted as the experience not to be missed in the Portuguese capital, now a destination for those who love culture and fun.

During the celebration of the popular saints here in Lisbon, it's very normal to see people eating the grilled sardines and " Caldo verde" soup, drinking Sangria and you can smell the scent of 'Manjericos' everywhere.
