The Portuguese of Hawaii

HP
####

Today, there are many cultures in Hawaii that represent the island's rich cultural heritage. One of these ethnicities include the Portuguese.

The Portuguese brought the ukulele to Hawaii. This guitar-like instrument, the ukulele, is still used today. And even recreational games such as the Horse shoe.

They also brought Portuguese bean soup ( which my dad loves it with pieces of bread in it ) and other delicious treats such as, sweet bread malasadas and chouriço or linguiça. All of these scrumptious foods are still chosen today for meals and snacks.

Today, the Portuguese understand that there is an importance to preserve the Portuguese culture. This has marked a new trend among the Portuguese as a renewal of their ethnic culture. They want to keep their culture alive by separating it from the Caucasian culture.
